Vacuum Pump Specialist Scoops Regional Business Award

A Telford based vacuum pump and blower manufacturer has been voted runner-up in a prestigious regional awards scheme.

Busch (UK) Ltd took the prize in the people management skills category at the Shropshire Business Awards 2005, sponsored by regional daily newspaper, the Shropshire Star.

The award comes as managing director Ian Graves celebrates his one year anniversary at the company.

Ian said: “My main objective has been to strengthen the customer focus with dedicated strategies for internal processes, people development and new IT systems. I’m delighted the achievement of these objectives has been recognised with this award.”

One initiative which particularly caught the judges’ eye was Busch’s Productivity Week with workshops focusing on teamwork and breaking down barriers between departments.

The company is currently working towards the Investors in People award, having invested heavily in staff training.

All employees are now given training sessions on company products and technology, with funds available to anyone interested in pursuing professional qualifications.

Ian said: “Our staff are now more knowledgeable, confident in their ability to perform a good service and ultimately happy in their work.

“Communication is an essential element in keeping the workforce motivated and I have made inter-departmental meetings a mandatory addition to the monthly calendar, as well as introducing a company Intranet and newsletter.”
