Forty-Five And Holding For Long Serving David

David Martin, materials manager for Congleton based Busch GVT, is this week celebrating 45 years of continuous employment.

During this time he has never taken a day off sick or ever been late for work and currently has no plans to retire. He has seen several changes in the company ownership and worked under six different managing directors.

David said: “I’ve never been a clock watcher and always enjoyed working here. Everyone is really nice, the work is varied with no two days ever being the same.”

Matthew White, sales director for Busch GVT, said: “David’s dedication to his job and employment record is a shining example to us all as there aren’t many people these days who remain loyal to the same company for so many years.”

David began working as a fitter for what was then Precision Electrical Products of Stockport on 24 September 1961 and he later became a progress engineer.
In 1966 the company moved to the Forge Lane site in Congleton and the name changed to Precision Engineering Pumps. His role evolved over the years and he became the purchasing manager in 1998.

The company became Graham Precision Pumps in 1977 and then Graham Vacuum Technology in 2005. The Busch Group purchased the company in May 2006 and the name changed to Busch GVT Ltd.

David added: “I was pleased when the Busch acquisition took place. It feels like we’ve gone full circle as the firm I joined in 1961 was very much a family business and although a multi-national company, Busch is also a friendly, family concern, but on a much larger scale.”

In the spare time he does have available, David enjoys amateur operatics having played key roles in popular musicals such as Showboat, Annie, South Pacific and Oklahoma. He has been chairman of Trinity Operatic Society for 17 years.

He is also often called upon to undertake toastmaster duties at weddings for family and friends.
