Busch's Crypton SolutionBusch (UK) Ltd has supplied a crypton coated ATEX certified dry vacuum pump to a leading speciality chemicals manufacturer.
One of the company’s ND.0160.A Cobra pumps with special crypton coating, which is resistant to aggressive chemicals, has been installed at Robinson Brothers' factory in West Bromwich in the West Midlands.
The vacuum pump was installed as part of Phase 1 of a new manufacturing facility at Robinson Brothers and will work in conjunction with a ‘Hastelloy’ filter dryer. The processes involve methanol, isopropanol, toluene, acetic acid and traces of hydochloric acid. This was identified as a difficult cocktail, which required a specialist vacuum pump to prevent corrosion while still conforming with the relevant ATEX standards.
Tony Quinney, site engineering manager for Robinson Brothers, said: "We have worked with Busch for around 10 years now. We have looked at other vacuum pump manufacturers, but have always specified Busch products for our process needs as they give good performance and are reliable.
"We are also impressed with the ongoing product development programme at Busch, particularly concerning the new internal coatings which give much more resistance to corrosion and help keep maintenance requirements to a minimum."
The Cobra is described by Busch as being economical due to its low energy consumption as well as having state of the art design conforming to category 1 directive 94/9/EG (ATEX 100a). The pump is available with various sealing options to suit the individual needs of the customer.
Robinson Brothers is one of the UK’s largest independent manufacturers of speciality organic intermediates. Its products are used in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, rubber products (Robac), food and beverage products and cosmetics as well as speciality polymer chemicals.
Busch (UK) Ltd was established in 1971 and supplies a comprehensive range of vacuum pumps, low-pressure compressors and systems, which are designed and built to meet the individual needs of its customers. Its Telford base also features a full service and support centre.
With more than 1600 employees working in 43 manufacturing and operations facilities located around the world, Busch Vacuum Pumps & Systems was founded in Germany in 1963 by Dr-Ing Karl and Mrs Ayhan Busch.
