Busch Launches New R 5

Busch (UK) Ltd chose the Foodex Meatex event to unveil a new vacuum pump that has been specially designed and built to meet the food industry’s most stringent hygiene standards - the only vacuum pump in the world to meet these standards.

The new R 5 160 E oil-lubricated rotary vane pump is the most compact 160 m3/h pump on the market and is packed with features that Busch believes will make it the vacuum pump of choice within the food packaging industry. It has already been awarded the international iFdesign Award 2008.

Busch says that feedback from the food packaging and processing industry itself has had a strong influence on the R 5 160 E’s design and performance features.

“Our own expertise and experience, coupled with listening carefully to what our customers say they want, has produced an outstanding new vacuum pump aimed squarely at the food industry. The R 5 160 E is a major advance in pump design and performance,” said Busch UK’s managing director.

The new R 5 160 E reaches a vacuum of 0.1 mbar and has a suction capacity of 145 cubic metres per hour. The extremely constant characteristic curve over almost the whole pressure range makes an effective suction capacity of 115 cubic metres per hour possible at a working pressure of 1 mbar. This means a powerful vacuum pump that produces high suction capacity in the working pressure range of packaging machines. In practical terms, this means: short cycle times and quick packaging.

The R 5 160 E also boasts outstanding oil separation, optional cooling systems (air cooled, integrated water-cooling coil, integrated water-cooling coil and a water-cooled motor) and the lowest power consumption of any pump of this size are among the R 5 160 E’s features. An integrated exhaust oil separator is also available for use in oxygen or rough vacuum applications.

Busch has also designed and patented a new ‘pirate-safe’ exhaust filter for the new R 5 160 E that is accessible from the outside for easy servicing and maintenance.

With hygiene very much in mind Busch has designed the whole pump unit to be easy to clean. It can even be hosed down.

Busch (UK) added “We believe that the new R 5 160 E is the vacuum pump the food industry has been waiting for. It raises the bar significantly in terms of outstanding performance and innovative features – all a consequence of listening to our customers and acting upon the things they had to say. The result is the new R 5 160 E.”
