Busch Hooks a Big Fish

Busch (UK) Ltd, the Telford, Shropshire, based vacuum pump and blower manufacturer, has supplied efficiency improving equipment to a leading fish feed manufacturer.

Three Busch RC1000B vacuum pumps have been supplied to Skretting of Invergordon in Ross-shire, part of the global company Nutreco, which produces fish feed pellets used in the aquaculture industry.

Part of the manufacturing process requires the pellets to be coated with fish oil and then a vacuum impregnation process is used to achieve the correct amount of absorption. As part on an ongoing policy of looking at ways of improving efficiency, Skretting believed vacuum pumps used in the coating process was one area where savings could be made.

Busch engineers liaised closely with the Skretting team to find a solution to reach the efficiency target, while at the same time working within a limited budget.

Derek MacRae, engineering manager for Skretting, said: “We wanted to improve efficiency of the vacuum coating process but also to reduce energy usage, while at the same time minimising our service costs.

Busch’s engineers came up with the right solution and products to meet our needs at the right price. They also stuck to the defined delivery dates and the installation and commissioning was carried out without any disruption to our production schedules, which was a real bonus."
“The equipment has performed exceptionally well, enabling us to meet our original objectives and we are delighted with the outcome of this project.”

Ian Graves, managing director of Busch, said: “It is always great to hear from satisfied customers and this project really does demonstrate how our engineers are able to work closely with manufacturers to meet their processing needs.

“These days it is not simply a question of supplying quality equipment which is right for the application, but also going the extra mile to offer a high level of service which only comes from the knowledge and expertise which our engineers provide.”

The Busch RC 1000 B vacuum pump used for this application is described by the company as having proven rotary vane technology combined with the ability to pump high quantities of water vapour. The vane technology is integral to Busch’s design as are other features of the pump which result in an easy to maintain design and the most competitive total life cycle cost equipment for this type of application.

Available in various models and ultimate pressures from 3 to 1600 m3/h nominal displacement, Busch says the range is suitable for continuous operation in many different applications in varied sectors of industry

Busch (UK) Ltd was established in 1971 and supplies a comprehensive range of vacuum pumps, low-pressure compressors and systems, which are designed and built to meet the individual needs of its customers. Its Telford base also features a full service and support centre.
